Producer's Live Letter 93

Live from Berlin - The Beastmaster PLL

So this time around, the live letter will not cover anything else.

It was a fully focused letter, conducted by Ozma-san himself, going over most of the things related to the upcoming side job, the Beastmaster.

This feels more like an intro guide to Beastmaster than an actual PLL but oh well, let's go.

The Job Summary

You will capture beasts and call upon them to fight at your side.

You can tame up to 50 types of beasts.

You can choose up to 3 types of beasts to customize your fighting style.

Beastmaster Actions

Parting Blow

Orders beast to execute a powerful area of effect attack and then retreat.

Trick

Orders beast to perform its instinctual skill. This will use your beast's TP gauge.

Tempered Release

Orders beast t o perform a unique action. This ability is unique to each beast.

Borrow

This allows the beastmaster to draw upon the aether power from their beast to use the beastmaster's own actions.

In short, Parting Blow, Trick, and Tempered Release are abilities you order your beast to do, while Borrow is when you take on the power of your beast, and you carry out the action.

Borrow actions

There are 8 different types of actions you can take when you borrow from your beast.

These appear to be dependent on the type of beast you have out in combat at that moment, for example, if you borrow from a Beastkin pet, you'll be able to use the ability Beastskin, which reduces incoming physical damage.

And if you had summoned a Wavekin beast to the field and then used borrow, you'd be able to use Quelling Wave, which is a single-target ranged magic attack.

Likewise, if you use borrow on a Soulkin, you'll be able to use Soul Crush, which is a single-target attack that can also interrupt an enemy action.

Any borrowed ability you get from your beast, will remain with you, even if you switch out to other beasts, only being replaced if you borrow a new ability from a different beast.

These actions were showcased in the live letter directly in game, if you'd like to see them, you can jump directly to the timeline here: Live Letter at 07:54:03

In total, there are 8 borrow actions and 50 tempered release actions available to you as you get more beasts, and you're free to combine them in any way you wish.

Instinctual Skills and Combos

These will be skills that consume TP.

Both the Beastmaster and their beasts have a TP gauge.

As Beastmaster, you have access to 4 Instinctual Skills, while each beast has access to one Beast Skill.

If you use the Beastmaster's Instinctual Skill and the Beast's Instinctual Skill within 7 seconds of each other,  you will unlock an Instinctual Combo. Using the combo successfully, you can deal additional follow-up damage to the enemy.

The Instinctual Skills have different affinities, these are:

  • Green Skills = Volant Affinity
  • Red Skills = Rampant Affinity
  • Blue Skills = Durant Affinity
  • Brown Skills = Eldritch Affinity

Any Beastmaster + Beast Skill cast in a sequence will result in a combo, even when casting the same colour affinity, however, these Icons are arranged in the Job Gauge in a clockwise circle, meaning that if you chain these combos in the order intended, they will increase the follow-up attack and deal even more damage.

You can start in any colour, and combos will work even using the same affinity which lowers the job floor, but the goal is to be intentional in your rotation and follow the clockwise combo rotation for optimal damage.

Once again, you can see this in action by jumping straight to the timeline here: Live Letter at 08:04:31

Beast Ranks

After playing a bunch of Crucible of the Unbroken, your beasts will eventually level up their ranks.

Once a beast reaches the max rank of 25, you can change its appearance outside the Crucible.

Beast glams yo!

The Crucible of the Unbroken

This will be the dedicated Beastmaster duty content, kind of like The Masked Carnivale for blue mages, except this time it's much more involved.

It's a single-player experience, available from level 30 (after the job quest), meaning that from level 1 to 30 you will be travelling in the open world, finding beasts to capture, after you unlock the crucible however, you transition into this content.

You can traverse the board with a magicked tool and engage in combat against shades of beasts.

Before you start, you will be able to select between 10 and 15 beasts to take with you on your journey.

The goal? Use your assembled team to try and defeat the boss waiting for you at the end of the board.

You will be able to earn exp while you play within the crucible, and level up.

The beasts you take with you on your team, will also gain exp and level up within the crucible.

Within the crucible your familiars will also have HP, and if they run out of HP, they will no longer be able to participate in battle.

Gaining exp and levelling up your beasts, will lead to increased beast ranks within the crucible, which enhances their attributes.

  • Strength: Affects physical damage dealt.
  • Intelligence: Affects magic damage dealt.
  • Physical Resistance: Affects physical vulnerability.
  • Magic Resistance: Affects magic vulnerability.
  • Constitution: Affects maximum HP.

If you'd like a preview of the crucible, including setting up the team, you can see it live by jumping straight to the timeline here: Live Letter at 08:20:19

Crucible's further challenges

Once you've completed all of the boards within the crucible, you will unlock additional difficulty levels, these are known as Degrees.

These will go up to 3rd degree of difficulty.

As you up the difficulty, the enemy's max HP and damage dealt will be increased accordingly.

Crucible Rankings

There will be rankings that will track your previous three scores from third degree difficulty.

You won't be able to one shot a high score once and be done, getting a high ranking needs you to be consistent with your high scores as it will average the scores from clears.

These score will also be cycled on a season basis, same as the pvp seasons, these will restart over time so you can't sit on your laurels for long.

The first ranking period will start two weeks after the release of patch 7.56 and will last until 7.58.

Being a high-ranking player will of course get you rewards.

Achievements

There will be achievements available for completing the content, including specific achievements and rewards for completing all the stages of this content on the highest third degree difficulty.
